  • Phonology: Listen to, identify and produce the basic sounds of Pinyin(Chinese phonetic alphabet, CPA)

  • Basic word order

  1. Linguistic Skills

  • Listening: very limited and brief expression related to food

  • Speaking: repeat, retell and recite words and sentences learned in class with proper tones

  • Reading: recognize Pinyin and use Pinyin to locate characters with the help of teacher

  • Writing: 1) write Pinyin correctly; 2) write basic Chinese characters

  1. Strategies

  • Cultivate a desire for and an interest in Chinese language

  • With teacher guidance, learn to use textbooks, pictures, pictionaries and multimedia resources to seek information

  1. Cultural Awareness

  • Develop interest in Chinese culture
